Finally! Out of all your friends, someone has finally shown you great importance and has chosen you to be his Best Man. Being a Best Man is indeed an honor therefore being chosen as one automatically means that you are respected by the couple.
As a first time Best Man at the wedding, you are probably unsure of your responsibilities or how to go about all things that will happen before, during and after the wedding. Not to mention that being a Best Man entails a lot of responsibility.
There are a lot of things you have to keep in mind as the Best Man at the Wedding. First of all, keep a tickler of all the things you need to take care of prior the wedding:
- Bachelor Party – You are in charge of all the basic details like when to hold the party, where to hold it and at what time exactly. Make reservations before hand of course.
- Food and Beverages – What’s a party without food and drinks? Sometimes if your other friends are experiencing hard times, you’re even the one in charge of spending for the food and drinks. Consider potluck if you wish.
- Stripper (depends) – To give life to party, consider hiring one if all your friends and the groom is game for it.
- Invites – Make sure that you man the invitation. You don’t necessarily have to send out an invite, you can simply text or call your friends and chances are they will pass it on to your other friends.
- Guest Confirmation – Ask your friends to confirm their attendance a couple of days before the event so you could do a head count of how many people you are actually expecting.
The Things you need to take care of for the wedding:
- Church Reservations – Make sure you have confirmed the church reservation.
- Hotel Reservations – Same goes for the hotel.
- Caterer - … and the caterer. If possible, do a menu sampling with the couple.
- Tuxedo / Suit – Make sure you know the style to pick out for the groom and his size. Have the groom pre-fit the suit before the wedding.
- Dry Cleaning Services – Of course, make sure it is washed well.
- Chauffer – Contact a Chauffer. This is also a good gift idea you can give your friend.
- Priest / Officiate (payment and service) – Make sure you have to payment for the priest / officiate ready and that you have reserved them a transportation service
- Wedding Ring – Take a hold of the wedding and hold on to it until right before the ring bearer is about to walk down the aisle
- Guests – Make sure all the guests are enjoying themselves and are being fed well.
- Best Man Speech / Toast - Prepare for your speech well and know your timing. Keep in mind that it has to be short, sweet and simple.
The Things you need to take care of after the wedding:
- Souvenirs – With the help of the Maid of Honor perhaps, distribute the souvenirs.
- Payment for services – Make sure everyone is paid after the wedding.
- Honeymoon Reservations – Right after the wedding, re confirm booking reservations of the couple.
- Return Tuxedo / Suit – Offer to return the tuxedo or suit of the groom. This will lessen the weight of his load when he goes on his honeymoon right after their wedding reception.
That’s not even half of all the things you have to take care of as the Best Man because there’s a whole lot more. Plus the fact that there might be unexpected incidents during the wedding itself that you have to deal with by yourself as the Best Man. The bottom line is: Be Prepared!
