Personalized Pub Sign that completes the home

For lack of better term, my friend is an “alcoholic”. His obsession for alcohol has caused him several visits to the doctors – psychologists and medics at that, for assistance, guidance and counseling. He wasn't too proud nor was he ashamed of being an alcoholic though. Every time we asked, he would simply say that drinking is something he has become very fond of; not because of the taste but because of the influence and culture is actually has.

So it was no surprise to me when I visited him at his house right after he checked out from the hospital. His room was filled with several personalized pub signs, some of which were given to him as a gift, others he even inherited from his ancestors, while others he personally bought either online or from his trips abroad.

His personalized pub signs adorned the simple white walls of his bedroom. It gave much color to the simple walls because all the signs were hanging in a straight line. It was such a sight to behold. I looked closely at what the signs read and was surprised to see that some had footnotes that they are one of a kind. He was too proud of his collection and cannot help but boast of the fact that it would make him a millionaire if he decides to sell them.

I wondered right then and there if there are actually people who would want to buy such pub signs. Once again, he was proud to say that some even undergo auction and would not literally die for a particular pub sign especially those that are symbolic and depict symbols that were famous during the ancient times.

That's why his friends no longer have difficulty in getting him birthday gifts or Christmas gifts. They instantaneously give him personalized pub signs, some look funny because they seem as though they don't mean anything. Right at that moment I knew what my friend would love to have more of. He seemed as though he will never grow tired of collecting personalized pub signs.

I came to the realization that one of the influences my friend probably had in his addiction to alcohol has to do with his love for personalized pub signs. As shallow as it may seem, I knew at that time that his love and addiction for personalized pub signs is much more addicting than his love for alcohol. So when he was confined once again, this time, not for too much drinking but because he had a high fever, I knew what to get him. I got him a personalized vintage pug sign of the 1300s depicting a bloody red cross that is hand painted with the words “Jesus Christ” in them.

The time I bought him that gift, I started to, for myself collect pub signs as well.
